Workshops featuring Stata data analysis and statistical software
These will cover introductory and intermediate level material, and will take place in the Brookfield Health Sciences Building at University College Cork. The workshops will be led by Dr Brendan Halpin from the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick.
Details for each workshop are given below. We encourage participants in the introductory workshop to also sign up for the afternoon session. The cost for each workshop is 50 EUR and can be paid by credit card or purchase order (for UCC based attendees). To sign up, please email Dr Darren Dahly to indicate which workshop(s) you would like to attend. You will then be given payment details. We ask that participants pay promptly. Anyone who has not paid by Friday, March 4th will be removed from the participant list to make room for another. There are 20 available spots for each workshop.

Introduction to Stata Data Analysis and Statistical Software
The session will introduce Stata to researchers with little or no experience with it. Participants will learn how to load data and produce descriptive summaries including tables and graphs, how to edit and modify data, and how to carry out analyses such as t-tests, chi-square texts, ANOVA and regression.

Intermediate Topics for Stata Data Analysis and Statistical Software
This session is aimed at researchers with some exposure to Stata. Stata offers a very wide range of up-to-the-minute analytical tools, in a coherent and user-friendly framework. It is also programmable and highly extensible, which makes it valuable for complex data preparation and analysis tasks. This session will demonstrate more of its descriptive and analytical capabilities, and focus on some of its more advanced characteristics, including scripting analyses and accessing user-written add-ons. A quick overview will be given of Stata’s range of analytical tools such as ANOVA and linear regression; logistic regression (binary, multinomial, ordinal); models for count data, time-series data, survival data; tools for complex data (robust standard errors, cross-sectional time-series or “panel” models, multi-level models, structural equation modelling).
